Baldwin Park High School to Hold Driving Toward a Cure Car Show
The Baldwin Park High School community is joining together from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 for the fourth annual Driving Toward a Cure Car Show to help raise money for Class of 2016 graduate Jorge Aquino, Jr. who was diagnosed with Leukemia in October 2018. The car show will be held at Baldwin Park High School, 3900 Puente Ave., Baldwin Park.
Fontana Unified’s A.B. Miller High School Boasts 2 Dell Scholars
A.B. Miller High School seniors Maritza Padilla and Gerardo Pena were named 2019 Dell Scholars by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, an honor that comes with a $20,000 scholarship. Padilla and Pena, who both belong to A.B. Miller’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) college-readiness program, will also receive a laptop and textbook credits.
Baldwin Park Unified to Host American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life
Baldwin Park High School, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, will host a Relay for Life 5K fun run to raise funds for the fight against cancer and to celebrate and remember those affected by the disease. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, community members and families can enjoy student entertainment, engaging activities and local vendors. San Gabriel Middle School Career Day Highlights Professional Pathways
Jefferson Middle School students learned about the benefits of working in music composition, aerospace engineering, public safety and more than 40 other professional pathways during the school’s annual Career Day on March 29.
Bassett Unified Celebrates Winter, Spring Sports
Bassett Unified held a Winter Sports Celebration on March 27 in honor of Bassett High School wrestling, boys’ and girls’ basketball, soccer and cheer and a Spring Sports Rally to kick off the new season of sports on April 5. Coaches gave speeches and presentations, which highlighted student and team achievements, video footage and athlete interviews during the Winter Sports Celebration.
San Gabriel Unified’s efforts to provide high-quality arts and music instruction at all educational levels have been recognized with a Best Communities for Music Education designation, an award given to just 18 school districts in the state and 623 districts nationwide.
Baldwin Park Unified School Police Join Autism Patch Campaign
Baldwin Park Unified’s School Police Department is joining the nationwide police patch campaign for Autism Awareness Month in April. School police officers will wear the colorful patches on their uniforms, and community members can purchase a patch for $10. In addition to the police patch autism fundraiser, officers will receive specialized training that will bring improved services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Del Mar High School students detailed the injustices and discrimination that prevented people of color from purchasing houses in L.A. County – a process known as “redlining” – during the History Day L.A. competition, held March 9 at San Gabriel High School.
Families from across the San Gabriel Valley are invited to West Covina Unified’s Orangewood Elementary Parent Information Night to learn about the benefits of the school’s new Mandarin Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, which is now enrolling for its 2019-20 kindergarten class. Parents can meet Orangewood’s principal and learn how the school fosters an academic culture of biliteracy and bilingualism and prepares students for lifelong academic success.
Baldwin Park High School held its annual College and Career Fair on March 28, giving students an opportunity to gain information and advice from college recruiters, potential employers and the armed forces. Students who are undecided on what path to take after graduation were able to explore a variety of fields, including construction, landscaping, healthcare and banking.
