33-year Monrovia Unified Music Teacher to Conduct Final Concert
Students from Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School will showcase their musical talents during the school’s spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. Monrovia Unified Elementary Students to Visit Monrovia Public Library
Kindergarten students from Bradoaks Elementary School will take a field trip to Monrovia’s Public Library at 9 a.m. Friday, May 17. The library is at 321 S. Myrtle Ave, Monrovia. Educators will focus on encouraging students to read outside of school.
The El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees honored LGBTQ Pride Month with a celebration on May 15 featuring a symbolic pin distribution, raising of a rainbow pride flag and a reception hosted by Rosemead High School culinary arts students. The program featured LGBTQ organizations, student clubs and remarks from Board of Trustees Vice President Florencio Briones.
Baldwin Park Unified, City to Host 18th Senior Recognition Ceremony
The Baldwin Park Adult and Community Education (BPACE) Older Adult Program and the City of Baldwin Park’s department of recreation and community services will host the 18th annual Older Americans Recognition Ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8 at the Julia McNeill Senior Center, 4100 Baldwin Park Blvd., Baldwin Park. Kaiser Permanente Medical Center Baldwin Park and Kaiser Senior Advantage will sponsor a brunch for students, families and educators.
More than 150 students in kindergarten through sixth grade from Tracy and Vineland elementary schools crossed the finish line at Sierra Vista High School on May 10, completing the final mile of a 26.2-mile marathon as part of Rod Dixon’s Kids Marathon Run Club.
Dodgers Representatives to Host Anti-bullying Assembly at Bassett Unified
Edgewood Academy students will connect with ESPN and representatives of the Los Angeles Dodgers during a special Shred Hate Assembly celebrating the school’s No Bully initiative. The event will be held Wednesday, May 8 at Edgewood Academy, 14135 Fairgrove Ave., La Puente.
Buena Park Junior High School to Host Robotics Competition
Buena Park Junior High School will face off against five area junior high schools when it hosts Robot Nation, a robotics competition from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. Students will be judged on the design of their robots and teamwork while demonstrating driving skills with their creations. This event is open to the public. Buena Park Junior High School is at 6931 Orangethorpe Ave., Buena Park.
Sierra Vista High School Student Wins Award in Congressional Art Contest
Sierra Vista High School art student Kevin Bautista has been awarded a Judge’s Choice Award in U.S. Rep. Grace F. Napolitano’s 32nd Congressional District High School Art Competition for his work “Through the Cam.” Bautista and his art teacher Chuck Rowley will receive Congressional certificates at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Walker House, 121 N. San Dimas Ave., San Dimas.
Inglewood Unified School to Launch Arts Academy
Inglewood Unified’s Warren Lane Elementary School will launch an Academy of the Arts and expand to include seventh grade in 2019-20. All students will receive musical instruments of their choice and will be exposed to professional performances and cultural expeditions.
