Fontana Unified is partnering with Burrtec, Inc. and Veterans Partnering with Communities, Inc. to gather donations and create CARE packages for active duty military members. Fontana Unified teachers, students and staff will be collecting and donating food, toiletries, entertainment items and clothing and writing letters to the military through Friday, Oct. 18. Donation drop-off sites are located throughout Fontana Unified.
Bassett Unified School District will celebrate Bassett High School’s renovated Olympian stadium and track – featuring state-of-the-art artificial turf, updated goal posts, resurfaced all-weather running surface and beautified facilities – with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 prior to the 2019-20 homecoming football game kickoff at 755 Ardilla Ave., La Puente.
West Covina Unified will hold a series of financial aid information nights for students and families, providing presentations on the process and assistance with financial aid applications. West Covina High School will hold a session from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the Bulldog Café, 1609 E. Cameron Ave., West Covina. Edgewood High will host a session from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the Pride Café, 1625 W. Durness St., West Covina.
The fourth annual Parent Partnership Academy, a free one-day conference for all parents and guardians of Bonita Unified students, will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at Lone Hill Middle School, 700 S. Lone Hill Ave., San Dimas. Over 20 workshops and sessions taught by Bonita Unified educators and local experts will provide training, support and demonstrations on a wide range of topics from classroom technology to individualized services for students with special needs.
Sierra Lakes Elementary School students and families will build relationships and promote intercultural understanding during Multicultural Night, held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 5740 Avenal Place, Fontana. Families will collaborate with the school to create booths – which may feature storytelling, food, dance and art – based on their own countries of origin, backgrounds, beliefs and customs.
El Monte City School District will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new 8,552-square-foot Professional Development Center, which will provide teachers with a state-of-the-art learning space to aid them in the creation of innovative instructional materials for District students. The event will feature a musical performance from students in Potrero School’s Mariachi Program and student-led tours of the building from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14. The building, funded through the community-adopted Measure M, will provide three rooms equipped with projectors, podiums and sound systems for training programs. The El Monte City School District office is at 3540 Lexington Ave., El Monte.
El Monte City School District’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program piloted the use of Lego Robotics in January 2018. When the popularity of the robotics portion of the program surged and earned a second-place project award at the Los Angeles Region FIRST Lego League, the program was expanded to include all students at the start of the 2019-20 school year.

Thousands of Inland Empire students and their parents spoke with college recruiters, filled out college applications and explored career options during the inaugural Inland Empire Regional College Fair, held Sept. 25 at the Ontario Convention Center.
