Newly Renamed Oak Grove Prep Academy Sets Vision for Career-Connected, Whole-Child Learning
FONTANA, CA – As construction progresses at one of Fontana Unified School District’s (FUSD) newest, state-of-the-art campuses, District leaders have unveiled the official name and academic vision for Oak Grove Preparatory Academy, a seventh- to 12th-grade school designed to blend career-connected learning, academic advancement opportunities, and student-centered support.
Formerly known as the Secondary Academy, Oak Grove Prep reflects the District’s continued focus on serving a growing North Fontana community by expanding opportunities for students to explore careers and expand their academic and social foundations. The school, opening fall 2026, will begin enrolling students from grades six to nine, adding on an additional grade level each academic year.
“At its core, Oak Grove Prep is about creating new opportunities where students can explore interests early, accelerate when ready, and feel supported every step of the way,” said Anne-Marie Cabrales, principal of Oak Grove Prep, who has served FUSD for 31 years. “The structure of the school is designed to support the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally, while giving students the flexibility to dive into their interests and prepare for their pathway after graduation.”
Oak Grove Prep will debut a seven-period instructional day, which will provide more opportunities for academic intervention and accelerated coursework, without sacrificing electives. Students have the opportunity during their six years at the academy to complete up to an additional 12 semester courses or six year-long courses. The schedule includes an advisory period focused on mentorship, attendance, academic progress, and social-emotional check-ins to provide personalized support for each student.
College partnerships allow students to begin dual enrollment in tenth grade and earn up to two years of college credit, while fulfilling A-G and college general education requirements prior to graduation.
The academy will also launch Career Technical Education (CTE) programs in Cybersecurity and Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence, and Performing Arts in its first year of opening, with additional pathways added as grade levels expand. Unlike traditional models, Oak Grove Prep will offer exploratory CTE coursework to seventh- and eighth-grade students, allowing them to sample pathways before ninth grade to help them make a more confident decision in their courses later on.
“This new, state-of-the-art school provides students with the experiences, certifications, and college credit that will allow them to be highly competitive in the college application process and in their future careers,” Cabrales said. “I am looking forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to prepare our learners for life beyond graduation.”
The campus is an all-indoor facility to support student safety, supervision, and ease of movement between classes. The design allows for increased visibility and controlled access points while maintaining flexible learning and collaboration spaces throughout the school, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) labs, maker spaces, robotics and fabrication labs, media production studios, outdoor learning areas, a graphic design studio, a research hub, a study lounge, and a gymnasium.
Students in ninth- through 12th-grade will also have the opportunity to participate in CIF athletics programs and teams at other FUSD comprehensive high schools, with schedules designed to accommodate their travel.
Families interested in learning more about enrollment can visit the District website at www.fusd.net/ or contact (909) 357-5000 for updates.
“Oak Grove Prep Academy reflects the thoughtful planning that goes into creating schools designed around student opportunity and readiness,” Superintendent Miki R. Inbody said. “By expanding access to career pathways, college-connected coursework, and social-emotional supports, this campus builds on the strong foundation already in place across Fontana Unified and gives students additional ways to succeed.”
