WHAT: Lynwood Unified School District will celebrate the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Culinary Arts Classroom and Lab at Lynwood High School, providing students in the career technical education program the opportunity to engage in hands-on cooking experiences.

VISUALS: Lynwood Unified Board of Education representatives, Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, culinary arts scholars and community members will celebrate with a ribbon cutting and tasty bites made by the scholars themselves. Following the program will be an opportunity to tour the facility and see the students in action. The marching band and cheer will also perform.

DETAILS: Modeled after the culinary arts kitchen at Long Beach City College, the new facility at the Lynwood High School Bullis Campus will offer students a high-quality learning experience with stainless steel equipment and ADA-compliant workstations that support various cooking styles. The lab is equipped for safe catering, including deep-frying and baking. Plans include offering after-school courses to Firebaugh High School students, providing valuable life skills and career awareness. Students can also earn their ServSafe Food Handler’s certification.

Funded by the District’s Measure K Bond, the facility was also made possible in part by grants from Los Angeles Regional Consortium’s K12 Strong Workforce Program and the California Department of Education’s Career Technical Education Incentive Grant Program.

“Our goal is to expand the program and introduce dual enrollment opportunities using this state-of-the-art lab,” CTE Coordinator Juan Barroso said. “With this facility, college instructors and industry chefs can teach onsite, providing students with real-world experience and the chance to explore this potential career pathway.
