BALDWIN PARK – Baldwin Park Unified’s Kenmore Elementary School’s success in preparing students to perform at grade level and creating lifelong learners has earned the school a spot on the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) 2018-19 Honor Roll.

Kenmore Elementary was named a Star School, a category for high-performing schools with significant populations of socioeconomically disadvantaged students. The Honor Roll is based on overall performance on state standardized tests.

“Baldwin Park Unified School District is tremendously proud of our talented teachers, administrators and staff at Kenmore Elementary for fulfilling our mission to ensure high achievement for all learners,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “It is an honor for a BPUSD school to be recognized and celebrated as a leader in student achievement.”

Comparing test scores from 2016-17 to 2017-18, Kenmore’s English language arts (ELA) numbers rose 7 percentage points to 63 from 56 percent, and numbers in math rose 1 percentage point.

In addition, 64 percent of ethnic minority students and 63 percent of socioeconomically disadvantaged students met or exceeded ELA standards.

“We work hard to ensure the success of all our students – one standard at a time and one grade level at a time,” Kenmore Principal Jane Sattari said. “We have created a culture in which students, parents and teachers believe that academic achievement is possible.”

The Honor Roll recognizes public elementary, middle and high schools that demonstrate high levels of student achievement and work to reduce the achievement gap. This year, the California Honor Roll recognized 1,831 high-performing schools.

Honor Roll schools must also demonstrate a defined system-wide mission for college and career readiness. Through the No Excuses University network, Kenmore students are immersed in a college-going culture from an early age with many alumni going on to study at elite four-year universities.

Created by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP), the Honor Roll takes into account 14 measures used in California Department of Education data, including UC/CSU admission requirements and graduation rates.
