CITY OF INDUSTRY – Los Altos Elementary School Principal Rosalie (Rosie) Sinapi is one of 14 women named a 2022 Distinguished Woman of the Year Honoree by California State Assemblymember Lisa Calderon, who celebrated the recipients during the Woman of the Year Awards event on April 11, in honor of Women’s History Month.

Sinapi began her career as a substitute teacher in 1996 and went on to serve as a teacher on special assignment, assistant principal, robotics coach, volunteer and all-around asset for the HLPUSD community. For her exceptional professional work, she was nominated by Hacienda La Puente Unified administrators and selected as an honoree by Calderon in March. Calderon recognizes women for exhibiting strength, courage and vision within their community while living, working, or volunteering in the 57th Assembly District.

“From a young age, I was taught to help others and give back to our community and I am honored to be recognized alongside such amazing women,” Sinapi said. “I am thankful to be part of a District where women, inclusion and diversity are celebrated and I humbly accept this award on behalf of all the hardworking women I have the pleasure of working with each day.”

This is Sinapi’s second award nomination and second win of the school year. In December 2021, she was also named a Computing, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (C-STEM) Administrator of the Year by the University of California, Davis C-STEM Center for her leadership in supporting integrated computing and STEM education.

“Ms. Sinapi’s leadership, dedication and advocacy towards Spanish Dual Language Immersion, New Pedagogies for Deep Learning and C-STEM curriculum has supported the growth of hands-on instruction, program development and student and community engagement within our District,” Superintendent Dr. Alfonso Jiménez said. “We are thankful for Ms. Sinapi and all of the distinguished women at Hacienda La Puente Unified whose remarkable contributions and hard work ensure the success of all HLPUSD students .”
