CITY OF INDUSTRY – Hacienda La Puente Unified has appointed Dr. Rosa Isiah as the new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, effective July 1, 2023, bringing her extensive experience as a longtime educational leader who actively promotes equity, access, multilingual education, and a strong focus on closing opportunity gaps for historically marginalized communities to the District.

Isiah, who was appointed on June 8 and whose contract was unanimously approved by the Board of Education during a meeting on June 22, was selected following an extensive search and rigorous hiring process. The shift follows the retirement of Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Curriculum and Assessment Dr. Judy Fancher at the end of the 2022-23 school year.

“I am honored to begin my 30th year in education, collaborating alongside phenomenal educators and administrators and advocating for the employees, students and families of Hacienda La Puente Unified School District,” Isiah said. “Thank you to the Board of Education and Superintendent Jiménez for your trust and support. I look forward to continuing to cultivate learning environments that foster individual learning styles and meet the needs of the multicultural community we serve.”

Throughout her career, Isiah held numerous teaching and administrator positions, including Bilingual Resource Specialist, Assistant Principal, Coordinator and Principal. She will join the HLPUSD family after serving as the Elementary, Equity and Access Director at Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, a position she held for five years.

Under her leadership, Norwalk-La Mirada Unified received a Golden Bell award, two California Distinguished School awards and nine Pivotal Practice awards for academic and district excellence. She also received the Loyola Marymount University 2019 Leader for Social Justice award, recognizing her for completing ongoing acts of community service, social justice and racial reconciliation.

In addition to her academic successes, she has co-authored five books based on the whole child, equity, leadership and power of relationships. Isiah is also a board member of the Phi Delta Kappan International Board of Directors and the Alliance for Excellent Education Future Ready Schools.

When not fulfilling academic duties, Isiah said she often presents at social justice conferences and contributes her voice to blogs and podcasts. She most recently guest appeared on The Ed Branding Podcast on June 23.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I’d like to formally welcome Dr. Isiah to Hacienda la Puente Unified and know that she will be an outstanding addition to our leadership team,” Jiménez said. “We are eager to begin our partnership and continue creating amazing educational programs and opportunities for our students and families with the support of Dr. Isiah’s inclusive and collaborative leadership approach. Welcome to the HLPUSD family.”
