Fontana Unified to Name Fontana High’s Sports Field after Legendary Coach Dick Bruich
WHAT: Fontana Unified School District will host a dedication ceremony as it officially names Fontana High School’s newly-renovated sports field at Steeler Stadium to Dick Bruich Field in honor of the school’s legendary, retired coach. The dedication ceremony will take place just before kickoff during Fontana High football’s final home game of the 2023 regular season against Arroyo Valley. The celebration also includes Homecoming and senior night for football athletes.

DETAILS: Dick Bruich left an indelible mark on Fontana Unified in his 30-plus year career coaching at District schools. He coached Fontana High football from 1977 to 1998 and also led the softball and girls basketball teams for a time. He guided the Steelers to a national championship, two state championships and two CIF titles, and went on to Henry J. Kaiser High School from 1999 to 2009, where he won a state championship and two more CIF titles. He has been inducted to the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, National Football Foundation, California Coaches Association, CIF Southern Section, Inland Valley Classic and City of Fontana Athletics hall of fames.
Fontana High’s football team played its first game on its home field on Oct. 12 this season after it underwent a renovation. A new track, turf, lighting system, goalposts and snackbar were installed at Steeler Stadium, while the home restrooms were also updated.
