WHAT: Fontana Unified School District will close out February with a Black History Month Elementary Excellence Awards Ceremony, which will be hosted in collaboration with the District African American Parent Advisory Council (DAAPAC). The event will celebrate Black History Month with local performers and honor District elementary students’ academic and artistic excellence.

DETAILS: Fontana Unified began the month of February with a Black History Month Celebration: “Harmony in Heritage and Knowledge” at Fontana High School on Feb. 3. The event honored the rich contributions of African and African-American heritage and included live performances, traditional dancing, arts and crafts, and exhibits.

FUSD’s Global Studies Department provides students with opportunities to explore the contributions, opinions, stories, and daily lives of people from diverse backgrounds throughout history year-round. The District hosts celebrations for Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month in October, Native American Indigenous Peoples Month in November, Arab American Heritage Month in April, and Asian American-Native Hawaiian-Pacific Island Heritage Month in May.
