Fontana Unified to Celebrate Milestone in New Secondary Academy Construction with Topping Off Ceremony
WHAT: Fontana Unified School District will mark a major milestone in the construction of its state-of-the-art Secondary Academy with a “Topping Off” ceremony, a tradition celebrating the placement of the final beam on a building. Located in the north end of Fontana, the new Secondary Academy will span more than 150,000 square feet and serve up to 1,200 students when it opens in August 2026. Designed as a student-centered campus, the school will foster collaboration, creativity, and hands-on learning.
District leadership and representatives from project contractor, Balfour Beatty Construction, and architect, Ruhnau Clarke Architects, will be present for the event, which will include honorary speeches and a lunch.

DETAILS: Fontana Unified’s new academy will provide students and families with access to small class sizes and high-quality academic instruction, supporting the District’s commitment to meeting the needs of its community, particularly the rapid growth in the north end of Fontana.
The innovative three-in-one campus will serve as a school, community engagement hub, and gallery space, honoring the history of Fontana while showcasing original student work. Design features include STEM labs and maker spaces, robotics and fabrication labs, media production studios, outdoor learning areas, a graphic design studio, a research hub and study lounge, and a gymnasium.
