FONTANA, CA – Fontana Unified School District will bid farewell to the Class of 2021 from June 8 to 10, honoring their achievements with socially distanced commencement ceremonies that allow for lively and safe celebrations.

Fontana Unified has outlined tentative plans to honor graduates with modified in-person ceremonies at the San Manuel Stadium, home to the minor-league Inland Empire 66ers baseball team. The outdoor venue allows ample space for the District to replicate its traditional commencement ceremonies as closely as possible while adhering to health and safety guidelines.

“We are planning for every possibility to celebrate our seniors, and are committed to providing a memorable experience to culminate their years in Fontana Unified,” Superintendent Randal S. Bassett said. “As we recognize the Class of 2021 and their accomplishments, the health and safety of our students, employees and community remains a top consideration.”

Since San Bernardino County remains in the orange tier for COVID-19 risk, the in-person, outdoor ceremonies are allowed with fixed seating and limited capacity. Additional capacity may be available if the County reaches the less restrictive yellow tier by the end of May.

Each graduation ceremony will be streamed via YouTube Live, allowing the opportunity for all friends and family members to view the ceremonies in their entirety from home.

The District is also exploring additional opportunities to enhance end-of-year celebrations and honor its senior class prior to the graduation ceremonies.
