Fontana High School Senior to Play Softball, Continue Education at Utah Valley University
FONTANA, CA – Cheered on by her parents and four older siblings dressed in green and white, Fontana High School senior Victoria Vasquez signed her letter of intent to continue her softball career and education at Utah Valley University.
Vasquez has played several sports as a Fontana High School Steeler – including basketball, soccer and volleyball – but softball has been her first love since she picked up a glove at age 7. She has played infield for most of her athletic career and will do so as part of the Wolverines softball team.
“Softball has been a huge part of my life since I was seven years old,” Vasquez said. “I play it because it’s something I truly love and enjoy doing. It has pushed me to overcome obstacles and has taught me something new each time I stepped on the field. This scholarship was a dream come true and I am so blessed to have this opportunity to play at the next level. I couldn’t have done it without the love and support I have from my family, coaches and friends.”
Her dedication earned her a spot on the all-league team as a sophomore and junior and has culminated in an athletic scholarship that will fund her pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
“I am so excited for Victoria. She has worked so hard for this,” Fontana High School head softball coach Vanessa Castillo said. “Victoria is not only a great athlete, but a leader with a positive outlook on life. I had the pleasure of meeting her when she was about 10 years old, and even then I saw how determined she was to be the best.”
A dedicated student-athlete, Vasquez has maintained a strong GPA while pursuing her athletic dreams, keeping above a 3.0 since her freshman year. She credits her parents, siblings and coaches for supporting her goals and helping shape her into who she is today.
As one of Fontana Unified’s five comprehensive high schools, Fontana High cultivates a culture of rigor and excellence, offering a robust academic environment and athletic programs that challenge student-athletes in the classroom and on the field.
