FONTANA, CA – Fontana Unified Class of 2026 graduates who are undecided about where they will attend college now have one guaranteed option: California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). CSUSB’s Direct Admit Program guarantees admission to the school for all eligible seniors who have completed their A-G admission and grade-point average requirements.

Fontana Unified is one of six San Bernardino County school districts to participate in the partnership with CSUSB, which was announced in September. The program aims to increase college enrollment by removing obstacles in the application process.

“This is a phenomenal moment for our students,” FUSD Assistant Director of College Readiness MarLan Parker said. “Attending college is every student’s right and destiny. We want to eliminate all barriers to college success. All Fontana graduates who qualify now have a college education waiting for them, guaranteed.”

CSUSB hosted a Direct Admit event for A.B. Miller, Kaiser, and Jurupa Hills students on Oct. 20. Students met with CSUSB administrators, received a campus tour, learned about financial aid, and talked to current CSUSB students, many of them Fontana Unified alumni, about freshman life. They also had the chance to visit the university’s residence halls, gaining a glimpse into the college experience. Students from Summit and Fontana high schools attended a similar event on Oct. 29.

“It’s great to see our seniors on a college campus interacting with the undergrads. They can see themselves on campus as members of the school community, they can imagine themselves living there,” Parker said. “It’s also important for them to be greeted by Fontana alumni and have a chance to talk to them. Not all our students will attend CSUSB, but they now have that option as a guarantee.”

Students qualify for guaranteed admission if they have graduated by summer 2026, have completed the A-G requirements – two years of history and social science; four years of English; three years of math; two years of lab science; two years of a foreign language; and one year of visual and performing arts – with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Students must also apply to CSUSB as their first-choice campus.

Currently, more than 1,400 FUSD students are eligible for guaranteed admission.

“Thank you to Cal State San Bernardino for this opportunity, as well as all of our teachers and counselors who have worked so hard to prepare our students for success,” Parker said.
