FONTANA, CA – Jurupa Hills High School junior Adriana-Rene Humber will serve as Fontana Unified’s Board of Education student representative during the 2024-25 school year, a role she will leverage to continue her passion for community service.

Humber aims to use her position to ensure every student is equipped for success in their educational journey while also promoting an inclusive environment throughout the District and community. Boasting a 3.9 GPA, Humber was selected from a pool of six finalists for the position during a special Board of Education meeting on April 16.

As representatives and voices for their peers, Fontana Unified student board members play a vital role in the District’s decision-making process. They also gain invaluable practical experience in their role, forming partnerships and receiving mentorship directly from District leaders. They also help lay the foundation for the next generation of global leaders by inspiring and motivating their peers.

“I want to create a positive impact not only within my school but across the District and community at large,” Humber said. “I believe a strong educational system is the foundation for building a brighter future for students, and I am committed and eager to show my passion, skills, and experience to help our community.”

Humber was appointed student board member after a lengthy application and interview process that included a student essay, multiple letters of recommendation, and a thorough round of interviews before the FUSD Board made its final decision.

Throughout her high school years, Humber has volunteered her time with Big Brothers Big Sisters; Chasing7Dreams, a camp for kids with developmental disabilities; and Pathways from Boys to Men, a Fontana-based non-profit providing resources and support to those in need. She is also in the process of starting her own non-profit called Hope for the Hopeless. She has also earned several awards, including a Black Excellence Award from Congress.

At Jurupa Hills High, Humber has been involved with an array of extracurriculars, including Academic Decathlon and Math Club, while also playing varsity tennis. She took on leadership roles in several organizations, serving as president of the Future of Medicine, National Honor Society, and Debate Club, and acting as treasurer of the Key Club.

“This year’s finalists were outstanding and truly inspired me, and Fontana Unified and our Board of Education will benefit greatly from Adriana’s voice and leadership,” Superintendent Miki R. Inbody said. “Her commitment to excellence in her education and her heart for serving her community made her a perfect fit for this integral role within our District.”
