FONTANA, CA – Fontana Unified School District will expand its Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program to Jurupa Hills High School starting in the 2024-25 school year to complete a full K-12 DLI pathway and rigorous and enriching educational experience for District students.

The DLI program, a cornerstone of academic excellence within the Fontana Unified School District, has garnered widespread acclaim for its commitment to bilingual education and fostering multicultural understanding. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students have the unique opportunity to become proficient in both English and Spanish, equipping them with invaluable linguistic skills and cultural competence.

Since its inception, DLI has flourished across all educational levels within the Fontana Unified School District. Beginning at the elementary level at Dolores Huerta International Academy and Redwood Elementary School, students embark on their bilingual journey, laying a strong foundation for academic achievement. Continuing seamlessly into middle school at Sequoia Middle School, students further hone their language skills while engaging in rigorous coursework.

Now, with the extension of the DLI program to Jurupa Hills High School, students can experience the culmination of their bilingual education journey. Jurupa Hills High School, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and student success, is poised to provide DLI students with a comprehensive high school experience that prepares them for higher education and beyond.

“We are thrilled to announce the continuation of the Dual Language Immersion program at Jurupa Hills High School,” said Superintendent Miki R. Inbody. “This expansion reaffirms our commitment to providing students with innovative educational opportunities that prepare them for success in an increasingly interconnected world.”

Students enrolled in the DLI program at Jurupa Hills High School will begin the high school program by enrolling in a core content course. As students continue in their biliteracy pursuits, a diverse range of academic coursework will be offered. Moreover, they will have access to a supportive learning environment that celebrates cultural diversity and fosters academic excellence.

Jurupa Hills High School Principal Antonio Viramontes is excited to welcome the program to campus because of its academic and cultural value as well as complementing the school’s rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

“The IB curriculum emphasizes international-mindedness, encouraging students to think critically about global issues and develop a broader understanding of the world,” said Principal Viramontes. “Immersion in another language fosters cultural understanding and appreciation. Students develop empathy and respect for diverse perspectives, essential qualities in our interconnected world.”

As Fontana Unified School District remains dedicated to empowering students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a global society, the continuation of the DLI program at Jurupa Hills High School exemplifies its unwavering commitment to educational equity and excellence.

Students who are biliterate but are currently not enrolled in a DLI program, may take a comprehensive Spanish language test for admittance into the high school program.
