FONTANA, CA – Nearly 1,500 students and families explored pathways to higher education and future careers as Fontana Unified School District hosted its annual College & Career Fair at Jurupa Hills High School on Oct. 14, connecting attendees with approximately 90 colleges, universities, employers, and industry organizations.

This year’s event featured expanded career offerings, with nearly 45 industry exhibitors giving students a broader look at their options after graduation. Through a new partnership with nonprofit organization SoCal Trades, the District connected attendees with industry professionals and opportunities to explore a variety of workforce pathways.

“As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the workforce, we want our students to understand the diverse career pathways available to them and the skills they will need to succeed,” Fontana Unified Assistant Director of College Readiness MarLan Parker said. “AI will continue to evolve, but we want students to know that there are human skills that technology simply cannot replace.”

For Summit High School junior Cameron Davis, who hopes to pursue a career in law, the event offered a chance to interact with college admissions officers and learn more about their pre-law programs.

“It’s important for students to come to events like this to prepare for the future, put themselves out there, and open up their horizons,” Davis said. “Being able to go around to all the different colleges and check them out has been my favorite part.”

Students and families connected with representatives from universities, trade schools, employers, and branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, gaining insight into college admissions, career requirements, and educational opportunities. Attendees also learned about career technical education (CTE) programs offered across the District, while breakout sessions provided guidance on budgeting, financial aid, and exploring local college opportunities.

“As a parent, it’s encouraging to see that light bulb turn on when your child discovers something at this event that they’re interested in,” Parker said. “Providing that access to information is how we ensure all Fontana Unified students make informed decisions about their futures.”
