WHAT: El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) will host a dedication ceremony to celebrate the renaming of Fernando R. Ledesma High School’s newly renovated multi-purpose building and gymnasium. The facility will be renamed the Freddy and Bernie Arteaga and Frank Ogaz Center, honoring two longtime educators and a former Board of Trustees President whose decades of service have helped transform the lives of countless students across the District.
WHEN: 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27
WHERE: Fernando R. Ledesma High School
12347 Ramona Blvd., El Monte
DETAILS: The renaming of the Center recognizes the visionary leadership of Freddy and Bernie Arteaga and the late Frank Ogaz, whose collaborative efforts helped establish Fernando R. Ledesma High School as a model continuation school focused on empowering at-promise youth.
Brothers Freddy and Bernie, who have served the school for more than 30 years as counselors, educators, and administrators, began their work at the campus when it was known as Valle Lindo Continuation School. Ogaz, a dedicated civic leader and former EMUHSD Board President, helped champion the school’s transformation alongside longtime District administrator Fernando R. Ledesma.
The celebration will include remarks from District leaders and community members, and will celebrate the Arteaga brothers’ and Ogaz’s lasting legacy of equity, opportunity, and student success.
