EL MONTE – El Monte Union hosted a Districtwide College Night at Mountain View High School on Sept. 12, where students and families connected with more than 50 colleges, universities and other organizations to learn more about the many opportunities and offerings available for them after high school.

Students received information on financial aid, scholarships, college requirements, college applications and various postsecondary education options and connected with representatives from California State University, Los Angeles, Mount Saint Mary’s University, Portland State University, Citrus College, Cerritos College and more.

“As a senior, it can be quite stressful with college right around the corner but I am so grateful my fellow classmates and I were able to attend this year’s College Night,” Mountain View High School senior Anisa Robles said. “Everyone has been so helpful and supportive in answering all of our questions about financial support and the different majors and programs offered at each school. My dream would be to attend the University of Southern California but, after today, my possibilities are endless.”

In addition to receiving guidance on their options for postsecondary education, each student also received an El Monte Union t-shirt and swag bags filled with items to use throughout the school year, and Mountain View High School’s VISTA Academy set up a photo booth for families to commemorate the event.

In addition to College Night, the District provides a variety of programs and learning opportunities as part of its college-going culture. Dual enrollment courses and career technical education pathways are offered at every school through partnerships with Río Hondo College, Pasadena City College and Los Angeles Trade Tech College, providing students with a head start in earning college credits while concurrently enrolled in high school as well as apprenticeship opportunities after completing training and certification.

“I would like to thank everyone who participated in making this a wonderful and insightful event for our students and families.” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “At El Monte Union, we are committed to ensuring our students receive the tools and resources to be college- and career-ready lifelong learners. With the return of our Districtwide College Night event, we can continue to educate and prepare our students for life after high school.”
