EL MONTE – El Monte Union High School District’s five comprehensive high schools are being celebrated for their academic excellence and commitment to college and career, receiving recognition among the top-performing public high schools in the state and nation, according to the 2023-24 ‘Best High Schools’ rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

This is the third consecutive year that all five El Monte Union high schools have received recognition in the ‘Best High Schools’ rankings. Arroyo, El Monte, Mountain View, Rosemead and South El Monte high schools each earned high rankings among nearly 1,603 high schools in California and the District achieved a combined average graduation rate of 91% for all comprehensive high schools.

“Each of our campuses offer a variety of exciting academic and extracurricular opportunities that help our students in their educational journeys,” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “We are committed to ensuring our students are provided with the best resources and are taught the skills necessary to help them excel in their lives post-graduation.”

Each El Monte Union high school offers students the opportunity to take rigorous academic courses including Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes, Advancement Via Individual Determination and unique world language classes. The schools each promote equity and access to higher education by offering free AP, PSAT and SAT exams.

Arroyo High School is home to exceptional career technical education (CTE) pathways including engineering design, graphic design, food science and more. The school’s award-winning music and arts programs allow students to express their creativity, while the various student leadership and service club opportunities encourage students to give back to their communities.

Mountain View High School provides students with the chance to gain hands-on experience through its various CTE pathways including business and finance, Teacher Preparatory Academy, VISTA Media and Digital Communications Academy and more. Mountain View offers a full range of competitive CIF teams and encourages students to challenge themselves with after-school activities including marching band, drill team and color guard.

Rosemead High School helps ensure that every student has a chance to thrive academically, socially and emotionally by providing a variety of clubs and activities geared toward leadership and community. These clubs include National Honor Society, Sea Perch, Key Club, Sisters Achieving Greatness Art Truth Health and Service Club, Brothers Achieving Greatness Art Truth Health and Service Club and more.

El Monte High School offers students the opportunity to learn more about the pharmaceutical industry by providing CTE pathways such as medical terminology and pharmacy technician. The school also boasts award-winning visual and performing arts and athletic programs and provides access to a Link Crew mentorship program.

At South El Monte High School, students learn career skills by joining the variety of CTE pathways offered including healthcare administrative services, professional theater, and carpentry, and earn college credit early through the Early College Academy dual enrollment program with Río Hondo College. The school’s athletic achievements include a 2019 girls soccer state and CIF championship.
