EL MONTE – For the fourth consecutive year, El Monte Union High School District’s (EMUHSD) commitment to academic excellence is exemplified as all five comprehensive high schools secure top spots in the 2024 ‘Best High Schools’ rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

Arroyo, El Monte, Mountain View, Rosemead, and South El Monte high schools each earned high rankings among 17,655 nationally ranked schools and 1,652 schools ranked in California. The U.S. News Best High School rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Schools are evaluated on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well students are prepared for college. This year, Rosemead High School ranked in the top nine percent and Arroyo in the top 12% nationwide, with Rosemead, Arroyo, and El Monte high schools also achieving top 25% rankings among all California public high schools.

“We are thrilled to see five of our high schools recognized by U.S. News as some of the nation’s best,” EMUHSD Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “This recognition truly reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, whose achievements inspire us all every day and we are also extremely proud of the unwavering dedication of our staff who create the rich learning environments that allow our students to thrive.”

This recognition highlights El Monte Union’s commitment to fostering academic and social-emotional growth through rigorous programs and supportive learning environments that prepare students for success in college and careers.

El Monte Union’s comprehensive high schools offer a robust academic experience, including Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), and unique world language classes, empowering students for academic excellence and diverse career pathways.

Additionally, the District’s renowned career technical education (CTE) program provides 15 pathways across 10 sectors, with dual enrollment options, offering essential real-world experiences, alongside engaging Parent Involvement Academy and college resource events fostering student and family participation.

Arroyo High School was named a 2024 California Distinguished School for exceptional academic performance for the second consecutive year, with an outstanding CTE program encompassing engineering design, graphic design, food science, and more, alongside award-winning music and arts programs.

El Monte High School offers diverse CTE pathways in financial services, engineering and architecture, health science and medical technology, information and communication technologies, and transportation, complemented by renowned visual and performing arts featuring classes in a cappella, ceramics, and piano, and athletic programs.

Mountain View High School’s Viking Informational Systems Technology Academy (VISTA) prepares students for media production careers, showcased by their Art of Talking Podcast show which has been featured on various local news segments such as ABC 7 and NBC 4, and includes additional CTE pathways like teacher preparation, engineering, and architecture.

Rosemead High School champions the Access for All student learning initiative, providing dedicated laptops, wireless internet WiFi hotspots, and headphones, with CTE pathways in arts, media, and entertainment; business and finance; food service and hospitality; and a dual enrollment program with Río Hondo College in systems programming.

South El Monte High School offers the Early College Academy Dual Enrollment program with Río Hondo College, enabling students to earn college credit, with CTE pathways in arts, media, and entertainment; business and finance; health science and medical technology; manufacturing and product development; and a dual enrollment program with Los Angeles Trade Tech College in the building and construction trades.
