EL MONTE – El Monte Union high schools have been listed among the top-performing public high schools in the state and the nation, according to the 2020 Best High Schools rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

Arroyo, El Monte, Mountain View, Rosemead and South El Monte High Schools ranked in the top 30% or higher of high schools in the nation, as well as earning high rankings among approximately 2,600 high schools in California.

“El Monte Union High School District is deeply committed to ensuring our students can succeed in college, the workforce and beyond high school by equipping them with the relevant skills, knowledge and continued support,” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “These rankings celebrate the efforts of our students, teachers and staff to reach new levels of achievement and we are committed to continuing those efforts as we adopt new styles of learning and teaching.”

U.S. News evaluated more than 17,000 public high schools across the country and ranked them from top to bottom, both nationally and at the state level, using six ranking factors to measure academic quality, including college readiness, college curriculum, math and reading proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.

Each high school received an overall score that correlates to its percentile position in the 2020 Best High Schools rankings. El Monte Union’s strong scores – the highest of which belonged to Rosemead High School at 94.7 – exemplify the strength of the District’s college and career readiness programs, which include Advanced Placement and honors coursework, AVID programs and career technical education.

El Monte Union’s graduation rate among its five comprehensive high schools is over 90%.
