EL MONTE – The El Monte Promise Foundation in collaboration with El Monte Union High School District has launched a donation campaign to raise $10,000 for graduation banners and signs recognizing El Monte Union’s Class of 2020.

EMPF and EMUHSD are working in partnership with local cities – including Rosemead, El Monte and South El Monte – to support the display of banners throughout our communities that will recognize approximately 1,800 individual graduates from Mountain View, Arroyo, Rosemead, El Monte, South El Monte, and Fernando R. Ledesma high schools.

The fundraiser is expected to fund 400 banners, which would be placed on street lights within District boundaries and near each high school for the community to enjoy.

The deadline to donate is Wednesday, June 10.

“We are proud to promote this city-wide celebration for our students and encourage our school community to honor our graduates, who have had to put so many graduation festivities on hold,” said EMPF Executive Director Jennifer Cobian, who is spearheading the initiative. “This is just one small way to celebrate our seniors together.”

Donations begin at $20 for one student, $40 for two students, $100 for a group of students or $500 for a class of students, or about 25. However, EMPH will accept any and all donations to ensure all students are celebrated.

“On behalf of our students, I want to thank our city partners for their generous support and hope that our community can join us in this wonderful endeavor to recognize a class of resilient students,” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “Although the Class of 2020 cannot participate in a traditional graduation ceremony just yet, donations can support our students and recognize their great accomplishments.”
