WHAT:          El Monte High School (EMHS) and El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) will commemorate 125 years of history and achievement with a special anniversary celebration featuring student performances, alumni and community highlights, a showcase video, campus tours and exhibits, lunch, a time capsule ceremony, and the presentation of a resolution honoring the milestone from Senator Susan Rubio. Former EMHS Principal Doug Halvorson, who served from 1999 to 2005, will also offer remarks.

DETAILS:     Established in 1901 with approximately 15 students in a single classroom, EMHS was the first high school in what would become the EMUHSD. Over 125 years, the school has built a strong record of achievement in academics, athletics, the arts, student leadership, and community service.

The event will bring together students, families, alumni, educators, and community members to honor the people, milestones, and traditions that have shaped EMHS — from the adoption of the Lions mascot in 1925 and the opening of its current campus in 1938 to its recognition as a California Distinguished School and National Blue Ribbon School.
