COVINA, CA – Dr. Michele Doll, Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services at Covina-Valley Unified School District, has been named the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) Human Resources Cabinet Member of the Year, underscoring her dedication to building a supportive and dynamic work culture that positively impacts both students and staff.

With a distinguished career in public education spanning three decades, Dr. Doll has established a compassionate and strategic approach to human resources, helping the District to attract, retain, and nurture employees since 2015. Her commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment has been instrumental in shaping the District’s culture and enhancing the experiences of educators and staff.

“After 30 years in public education, receiving this award means so much to me; it’s a testament to the dedication of my team and the commitment we share to support the students, staff, and families in our District,” Dr. Doll said.

Since joining Covina-Valley Unified, Dr. Doll has implemented programs that prioritize employee recognition, professional growth, and career development. Her recent launch of the District’s Employee of the Month Program celebrates the hard work and dedication of staff members, creating a positive atmosphere that highlights each employee’s role in student and District success. She also successfully wrote and submitted a grant to support classified employees who hope to pursue teaching credentials, providing them with a pathway to transition into classroom roles.

“My favorite part of this role is working with our incredible team to develop solutions that truly benefit our students, staff, and community,” Dr. Doll said. “There’s nothing quite like knowing that our work helps to create a supportive environment where students and staff can both thrive.”

Prior to joining Covina-Valley Unified, Dr. Doll served as Senior Director of Human Resources at Glendale Unified School District and as principal of Crescenta Valley High School and Rosemont Middle School. Her early career as a history-social science teacher fostered her deep understanding of the needs of students, educators, and staff.

In her role as Covina-Valley Unified’s chief negotiator, Dr. Doll works with District and union leaders to support fair and transparent negotiations, representing the management team with diplomacy and respect for all parties. Her commitment to open dialogue and mutual respect has been vital to maintaining a positive work environment.

“I do what I do because I believe in the power of education to change lives,” Dr. Doll said. “Public education opens doors, and being a part of that journey – whether through supporting teachers, empowering students, or building policies that make a difference – feels both meaningful and deeply rewarding.”

In her spare time, Dr. Doll enjoys being with her family: husband, Bart, and two daughters, Taney and Cade. Dr. Doll said she cherishes family trips to Mammoth Lakes and Cambria, and values exploring new cultures and experiences.
Dr. Doll was honored at the LACOE Superintendent’s Collaborative on Nov. 7.

“On behalf of the entire District, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Doll on this well-deserved achievement,” Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer said. “Thank you, Dr. Doll, for your unwavering dedication to fostering an environment where every student and staff member can truly thrive. We are so proud of you!”
