COVINA, CA – Covina-Valley Unified School District is strengthening its leadership team with the addition of 10 administrators for the start of the 2026-27 school year, bringing experienced leaders and educators to schools and departments across the District.

Each new administrator brings a strong commitment to student success and will play an instrumental role in enhancing student support and school operations, strengthening programs, and advancing the priorities of Covina-Valley Unified.

“We are thrilled to welcome 10 outstanding administrators to our already exceptional team of educators,” Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Blackmore said. “Each of these leaders is dedicated to supporting our families and community while ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive.”

The District is welcoming new principals to several school sites, including Dr. Cynthia Cabello-Zelada as principal of Traweek Middle School; Julie Rehmer as principal leading Mesa Elementary School; Juan Carlos Cuevas as principal of Workman Avenue Elementary; Matt LeDuc as interim principal of Covina High School; and Daniel Gonzalez and Connie Hamachi will lead Covina High as assistant principals.

New administrators are also joining the District Office to help expand programs and opportunities for students, including Sean Diaz as Director of Special Education; Dr. Jacob Jung as Coordinator of Extended School Programs; Dr. Sean Van Aacken as Coordinator of Career Technical Education; and Dr. Angela Palmieri as Coordinator of Multilingual Programs. 

Collectively, the new administrators bring decades of experience in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, student services, career technical education, and school administration. Their backgrounds span elementary, middle, and high school, as well as District-level leadership, with many having previously served as assistant principals, directors, and teachers.

“Each of these incredible educators brings unique skills and experience to their role, making them well-equipped to support our students,” Blackmore said. “We look forward to all they will accomplish in their new positions and are confident they will help make the 2026-27 school year another successful one for Covina-Valley Unified.”
