Covina-Valley Unified Senior Will Bring People-Centered Mindset to Northwestern with Full-Ride Scholarship
COVINA, CA – South Hills High School senior Aiden Cordova will bring his people-centered mindset and passion for helping others to a new city in the fall after matching with Northwestern University through QuestBridge’s Match Scholarship.
Match Scholarship recipients are granted admission to one of QuestBridge’s college partners with a full four-year scholarship. The application process includes applicants ranking their top 10 colleges, completing essays and other supplemental materials for those colleges, and finally being matched with the college deemed their best fit.
“At first, I was doubtful about applying to the scholarship because I thought it was a long shot to be selected for it,” Cordova said. “But I’m so glad I took a chance on applying, and I can’t wait to explore a new geographic area and expand my perspectives at Northwestern.”
Cordova plans to major in biological sciences at Northwestern and pursue a career in medicine. He said that he looks forward to joining a club soccer team, being active in a Hispanic heritage club, and pursuing internships in medicine.
During his time at South Hills High, Cordova has spent his free time volunteering at a local hospital where he has helped nurses on the floor with various tasks.
Cordova has also been an active member of South Hills High School’s sports medicine career technical education pathway, has taken many Advanced Placement classes, and played for his high school soccer team.
“South Hills gave me so many great opportunities I was able to take advantage of,” Cordova said. “My favorite part of high school was meeting all my friends and getting college and career advice from my counselors. They all really helped me grow into the person I am today.”
Cordova said he is looking forward to meeting like-minded people at Northwestern who will continue encouraging him to pursue his life goals.
“Aiden is a perfect example of the unlimited potential in our students at Covina-Valley Unified,” Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer said. “We can’t wait to see how Aiden will continue impacting his friends and community at Northwestern, and we wish him all the best in this new chapter of his life.”
