Covina-Valley Unified High Schools Receive Top Rankings in U.S. News & World Report
COVINA, CA – All three comprehensive high schools in Covina-Valley Unified School District have been ranked among the top 25% of public high schools nationwide and the top 35% in California by U.S. News & World Report, underscoring the District’s unwavering commitment to student success.
U.S. News evaluates schools based on six key indicators of achievement and quality: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates.
“Covina-Valley Unified prides itself on offering an innovative education that inspires each student’s unlimited potential,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Blackmore said. “We are honored to be included in these top rankings and strive every day to ensure students can learn, grow, and thrive.”
Covina, South Hills, and Northview high schools each offer students a wealth of academic programs that help prepare students for the rigor of higher education, including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Dual Enrollment opportunities. With college-readiness programs including Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), students participate in college visits, mentorship and speaker opportunities, and skill-building activities that open pathways to post-secondary success.
Each school also offers diverse career technical education (CTE) pathways spanning industries such as aviation, cosmetology, medical, agriscience, business, fine arts, media, and entertainment, and more. These programs provide students with hands-on learning experiences, internships, and industry certifications that prepare them for careers in high-demand fields.
Beyond academics, students are encouraged to explore music, performing arts, and athletics, further developing their talents and creativity. With graduation rates of 95% or higher, Covina-Valley Unified graduates have advanced to prestigious institutions including Stanford, Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, UCLA, USC, and UC Berkeley.
The District’s schools have also earned many prestigious accolades, including a 2024 California Distinguished School honor, the AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award, and four consecutive Golden Bell Awards for exemplary programs.
“These achievements reflect the dedication of our educators, the hard work of our students, and the support of our families,” Blackmore said. “Covina-Valley Unified will continue building on this momentum to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed in college, career, and life.”
