COVINA, CA – Covina-Valley Unified School District has earned multiple recognitions from U.S. News & World Report, Innovate Public Schools, and the Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll for its innovative programs that empower students to excel inside and outside the classroom.

All three Covina-Valley Unified middle schools ranked in the top 13% of public middle schools in California, while all nine elementary schools were ranked in the top 29% statewide, according to the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings. Additionally, Manzanita, Rowland Avenue, Grovecenter, and Merwin elementary schools, Las Palmas Middle School, and South Hills High School earned a place on Innovate Public Schools’ 2025 Top Public Schools list for closing opportunity gaps for Latino students.

Additionally, Barranca, Grovecenter, Manzanita, Merwin, Mesa, and Rowland Avenue elementary schools, along with Las Palmas Middle School, were also named to the ERP’s 2025 Honor Roll for academic excellence.

“These recognitions reflect the excellence and uniqueness of our District,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Blackmore said. “With standout programs, a dedicated team of staff and faculty, and opportunities for students to pursue their interests, we ensure that every student can achieve greatness.”

Covina-Valley Unified’s Dual Language Immersion programs in both Spanish and Mandarin, which begin at the elementary level and extend into middle school, equip students to become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural leaders ready to succeed in a global society.

The District also places a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. In 2025, Covina-Valley Unified launched two new mathematics curricula across elementary and secondary schools. Eureka Math² engages elementary students through hands-on learning and real-world problem-solving that builds their curiosity and confidence. At the secondary level, McGraw Reveal emphasizes conceptual understanding, inquiry, and problem-solving. Together, these curricula move beyond memorization to foster deep mathematical thinking and discussion.

In high school, students can further explore their passions through 24 unique career technical education pathways, spanning aviation, medical sciences, culinary arts, engineering, cosmetology, and more. Students also engage in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including leadership opportunities, visual and performing arts, clubs, and athletics.

“By providing an innovative education, we help to unlock each student’s unlimited potential,” Blackmore said. “Our schools are places where students discover their passions, develop their skills, and gain the confidence to pursue their dreams. These recognitions are a testament to the dedication of our entire community.”
