Covina-Valley Unified Celebrates Class of 2025 with Five Inspiring Graduation Ceremonies
COVINA, CA – Covina-Valley Unified School District honored the Class of 2025 with five uplifting commencement ceremonies held June 2-5, celebrating the accomplishments of more than 1,000 graduates as they enter the next chapter of their lives.
Graduates from Northview, South Hills, and Covina high schools are headed to prestigious universities, including Harvard University; the University of Pennsylvania; the University of California, Los Angeles; the University of Southern California; the University of California, Irvine; the University of Oregon; and more. Many are attending these institutions with notable scholarships in hand, including the $50,000 Southern California Edison Scholarship and the $25,000 ACE Mentor Scholarship.
“Congratulations to our incredible Class of 2025 for your hard work, perseverance, and dedication,” Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer said. “Watching you grow and succeed has been truly inspiring, and we are confident you will continue to make an impact wherever your journey takes you.”
Covina High School celebrated a standout graduating class of 251 that includes 16 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars, 73 recipients of the California State Seal of Biliteracy, and 112 Golden State Seal Merit Diplomas on June 4. Valedictorian Juan Delgado-Pivaral, who earned the Gates Scholarship, will be attending Harvard University in the fall.
“I want to say congratulations to every family, friend, and member of the Class of 2025,” Delgado-Pivaral said during his graduation speech. “Take a moment to reflect…each of you holds the potential to make the world a better place…how you choose to use that potential is entirely up to you.”
South Hills High School recognized 380 graduates, 20 International Baccalaureate (IB) Scholars, 85 Seal of Biliteracy recipients, and 178 Golden State Seal Merit Diplomas. Graduate Anthony Andino was one of three valedictorian speakers at his commencement ceremony on June 3.
“Let this be a reminder – set your goals high, and don’t wait for permission to dream big,” Andino said. “It’s our time to shine, but don’t ever forget your roots because once a husky, always a husky.”
Northview High School’s 313 graduates included 12 AP Scholars, 85 Seal of Biliteracy recipients, and 105 Golden State Seal Merit Diplomas. Valedictorian Ysabella Hinojosa was named a CIF Southern Section 2024 Champion for Character earlier in the year for her strength and perseverance as a wrestling student-athlete.
“We will always have gold blood running through us,” Hinojosa said in her speech on June 2. “Take the shot, take the risk, and dare to do great. The future looks amazing on you all and I can’t wait to see what you do.”
Fairvalley High School and the Covina-Valley Learning Options Academy celebrated 50 graduates on June 4. Among them was Jaden Colannino, who received the Covina Women’s Club Scholarship and will attend Mt. San Antonio College.
“There were multiple times throughout my school career where I contemplated quitting completely,” Colannino said in his graduation speech. “I say this to illustrate that anyone with dedication, even if delayed, can get where they want and need.”
Tri-Community Adult Education honored 166 career technical education graduates and 54 high school diploma graduates on June 5. Members of the Class of 2025 have secured jobs at SpaceX, courthouses in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, SMART 105 and Ironworkers Local 433 unions, and more.
Among the graduates was 32-year-old Emily Najarro Fuentes, who achieved her goal of earning a diploma before her son, and took a step toward launching her own nail business.
“The amount of support and encouragement I received from my teachers and counselors at Tri-Community was exactly what I needed,” Najarro Fuentes said. “Today, I can proudly say to my children that it is never too late to accomplish your goals.”
