COVINA, CA – Covina-Valley Unified School District has named Dr. Kim Braswell, a 24-year veteran in education with a breadth of experience as a teacher and school administrator, as the new principal of Rowland Avenue Elementary School.

Dr. Braswell was unanimously approved during a Board of Education meeting on June 12, where her diverse background and qualifications in education were highlighted.

“It has been a dream of mine to be an elementary principal, and I share Covina-Valley Unified’s commitment to educational excellence for every student, every day,” Dr. Braswell said. “I will work diligently and in collaboration with all educational partners to provide a learning environment where students are safe and supported as they develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally.”

Over the last six years, Dr. Braswell served as a school administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She comes to Covina-Valley Unified from Bonita Unified School District, where she served as both the interim principal at J. Marion Roynon Elementary School and the assistant principal at Ramona Middle School.

Dr. Braswell began her career 24 years ago as an elementary school teacher in Rowland Unified School District, which included two stints as a teacher on special assignment. She first became an assistant principal at Rowland High School in Rowland Unified School District in 2017 and transitioned to Bonita Unified in the same capacity in 2019 at Ramona Middle School.

“Dr. Braswell has provided educational excellence for her students as both a teacher and school administrator at just about every level,” Dr. Eminhizer said. “Her experience and passion make her an ideal fit for Covina-Valley Unified, and we know she will maintain the high standard set at Rowland Avenue Elementary School.”

Dr. Braswell earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Cal Poly Pomona, along with credentials in administrative services and crosscultural, language, and academic development (CLAD). She completed her master’s degree in education with a reading specialist credential at California State University, Los Angeles, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies from California State University, Fullerton.
