LYNWOOD, CA. – United by their shared passion for supporting students’ education and the great outdoors, Lynwood Unified students, families and community members laced up their sneakers and hit the ground running for The Lynwood 5K/10K Run on May 13.

Held in partnership with the Lynwood Partners Education Foundation (LPEF), the City of Lynwood and Aztlan Athletics, the fundraising event, now in its second year, drew 540 participants who ran or walked between three to six miles through the City of Lynwood and raised over $48,000.

“We will always strive to provide Lynwood students with the resources they need to succeed,” LPEF Executive Director Elsa Chagolla said. “The Lynwood 5K/10K Run is one of the many ways we bring the community together and raise funding for our program, which provides students with thousands of dollars in resources and scholarships every year.”

The venture began and concluded at Lynwood City Hall, with participants receiving a commemorative t-shirt and finish medal to demonstrate their Lynwood pride as they circled the city. They also had the opportunity to explore 30 resource booths and vendors on-site.

LPEF, a nonprofit organization established in 2015, has secured approximately $1 million in funding for students in Pre-K through grade 12 in the form of college scholarships, STEM programs and other resources that are crucial to students’ success. LPEF also supports teacher grants, school grants, arts education and wellness initiatives.

“Lynwood Unified students and families truly put one foot in front of the other during this event, not only propelling themselves forward but also supporting the educational pursuits of the students in our community,” Superintendent Gudiel Crosthwaite, Ph.D. said. “Their determination was a beautiful display of the role partnerships have in helping our students achieve a brighter future.”

Next year’s event is slated to take place May 18, 2024.
