BUENA PARK, CA – Buena Park School District will offer a special program of online instructional materials, supplies and support to families who want their children to continue distance learning in 2020-21 even after schools are allowed to reopen.

The Board of Education unanimously voted to create the Academy for Accelerated Learning at the Buena Park Learning Center on May 11. The academy has a July 1 launch date and was created to add an additional level of safety for the community in regard to COVID-19.

The Learning Center will provide parents with learning devices, books, materials and a digital curriculum with a blended learning model in a personalized setting.

“Buena Park School District is committed to creating a safe environment for all our students, but we understand that some families are facing extraordinary challenges and they want options to meet their needs,” said Dr. Elsie Briseño Simonovski, the District’s Director of Child Welfare and Attendance. “I am excited about the innovative opportunities this new program will provide for families who are looking for new ways to accelerate learning and enhance engagement opportunities of their children.”

The Academy for Accelerated Learning will be available for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

“We want to support our families and students,” Superintendent Dr. Ramon Miramontes said. “The Academy for Accelerated Learning will ensure that we provide all families who wish to continue distance learning with a superb education that boosts student achievement.”
