SAN DIMAS/LA VERNE – Bonita Unified School District has been recognized as a “District on the Rise” by the Education Scorecard, according to data compiled through the collaborative efforts of the Center for Educational Policy Research at Harvard University and the Educational Opportunity Project at Stanford University.

The data reflects math and reading test scores throughout the District for grades 3-8 since 2021, which have risen steadily. The scores are compared to other districts with similar socioeconomic status, demographics, and size. Bonita was one of just 12 school districts in California to be designated as a “District on the Rise” by the Education Scorecard in 2026.

“Bonita Unified is justifiably proud to be recognized as a ‘District on the Rise.’ This can only be achieved with world-class educators, dedicated students, and a robust academic program with support tailored to students’ needs,” Superintendent Matt Wien said. “Our goal is to inspire every student to live their purpose while providing instruction that will prepare them for lifelong success.”

According to the data supplied by the Education Scorecard, Bonita Unified ranks higher than 92% of school districts nationwide in average reading performance, and 86% of school districts nationwide in average math performance.

Bonita Unified has also seen impressive year-to-year improvement in its learning rates. Learning rates are measured in grade levels of skills gained per year in math and reading. The District’s learning rate from 2022 to 2025 is +1.19, gaining at an average of +0.03 a year, while in similar school districts and throughout California, the trend in learning rates is in the negative. Bonita Unified’s average learning rate is higher than 90% of school districts nationwide.

In 2025, Bonita Unified achieved its highest-ever scores on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) for the second consecutive year, underscoring the District’s ongoing commitment to equity, mastery, and a focus on results.

The spring 2025 CAASPP scores place Bonita Unified among the top performing unified school districts in California, ranking in the top 6% in English Language arts (ELA) and the top 8% in mathematics.

The Education Scorecard, formerly known as the Education Recovery Scorecard, uses data from the Stanford Education Data Archive, which can provide accurate comparisons of school districts at local, state, and national levels.
