SAN DIMAS/LA VERNE – Bonita Unified School District has been recognized as the Best School District in the San Gabriel Valley, receiving a 2022 Readers Choice Award that reflects the District’s commitment to fostering a nurturing environment full of learning opportunities that empower students to achieve their full potential.

The Readers Choice Awards is an annual readers poll conducted by the Southern California News Group, which publishes the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star News and the Whittier Daily News. Votes were tallied from ballots that ran in the group’s newspapers and corresponding websites during March and April.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award and truly appreciate the community members who recognized the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff and administrators,” Bonita Unified Superintendent Carl J. Coles said. “By remaining true to our core values of equity, mastery and a focus on results, Bonita Unified will continue to ensure that every student in this District is prepared to live their purpose.”

Beginning with its universal transitional kindergarten program, the District offers a diverse range of academic and extracurricular opportunities that help students develop the skills and knowledge for lifelong success. From Advanced Placement courses and career technical education pathways to award-winning athletic and arts programs, Bonita Unified scholars are provided with the resources they need to pursue their dream college or career path.

Supported by highly qualified educators, Bonita Unified provides a rigorous academic program that supports student achievement through robust summer school programs and intervention instruction at all educational levels. Bonita Unified athletics help students build discipline and teamwork skills, while the District’s visual and performing arts programs inspire students to explore their creative side and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Bonita Unified has also been ranked No. 1 in reading by the California Reading Coalition, has nine schools designated as either California Distinguished Schools or Gold Ribbon Schools by the California Department of Education, and was named a Top Workplace by the Inland Valley News Group for three consecutive years.

“The Readers Choice Award is special because it is driven by Bonita Unified parents and families voicing their approval and letting us know that we are providing a high-quality educational experience,” Board of Education President Derek Bahmanou said. “The award also reflects the camaraderie and enthusiasm we see throughout the District at every school on a daily basis, which resonates through the entire community.”
