BALDWIN PARK – Baldwin Park Unified’s North Park Continuation High School was redesignated as a Model Continuation High School by the California Department of Education on Feb. 13, after a verification visit in December 2022.

North Park was recognized for creating and nurturing strong teacher and student mentorships, as well as ensuring students succeed academically and personally in a supportive school environment.

The Model Continuation High School Recognition Program identifies and celebrates outstanding programs. North Park Continuation was last honored as a 2020 Model Continuation High School, and this redesignation ensures North Park retains its model school status for the next three years.

“We are exceptionally proud of North Park for earning this recognition,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “It is a testament to the incredible North Park team, its school community and local partnerships, and we congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.”

The two-day verification visits in December saw judges meeting with North Park staff, students and parents, observing classrooms and leading focus groups before confirming the redesignation.

During the District and community focus group, representatives were in attendance from Early Childhood Education, Adult Education, Special Education, San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program, Kaiser Permanente, Río Hondo College, Mt. SAC and more.

Community support and local partnerships were credited as significant reasons for North Park’s success.

Kaiser Permanente has worked with North Park for more than 20 years, providing academic coaching, mental health support and several family and student support services. Through the partnership with Hillsides, therapists visit students on campus, as well as offer workshops for families.

“Thank you to all the people, organizations and programs that support North Park and its students,” North Park Principal Anthony Ippolito said. “I want you to know how important your partnerships are for us, and the difference you make for our school and community.”
