Baldwin Park Unified High Schools Receive ACS-WASC Accreditations
BALDWIN PARK – Two Baldwin Park Unified high schools – Sierra Vista High and North Park Continuation High – have received three-year accreditations from the Accrediting Commission of Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS-WASC) for their commitment to equity and high-quality education.
ACS-WASC accreditations indicate to the community that the schools are trustworthy institutions for student learning and dedicated to ongoing improvement.
“We are exceptionally proud of Sierra Vista and North Park for embodying our mission of ensuring high achievement for all learners, and demonstrating to the Baldwin Park community that there are no limits to what we can achieve,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “Both schools serve different roles in the District, but the outcomes are the same – rigorous academic opportunities and support systems that put learners first.”
Sierra Vista was celebrated for its use of instructional technology and student access to electronic devices, significant gains in student achievement, its Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, an emphasis on developing students’ critical thinking skills, and strong communication between teachers and students.
“Sierra Vista provides its students with a nurturing environment that embraces equity, diversity and student achievement,” SVHS Principal Vincent Pratt said. “We could not achieve this without the dedication and diligence of Sierra Vista faculty and staff and the incredible support we receive from the District and Baldwin Park community.”
North Park, designated as a 2020 Model Continuation School, was recognized for its gains in state testing, flexible scheduling, implementation of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), administrative and counselor support, and long-standing partnerships with Rio Hondo College and Mt. San Antonio College.
“At North Park, our goal is to graduate students who are ready to face the challenges of a global society,” NPCHS Principal Anthony Ippolito said. “Our tremendous teachers instill high expectations, which inspire our students to achieve at high levels.”
