Arroyo High Earns National Recognition in Varsity Yearbook’s Best-of Portfolio
EL MONTE – Arroyo High School’s 2023-24 yearbook, “If You Know Us, You Know,” has secured national recognition for outstanding quality and student-led creativity after earning a spot in Varsity Yearbook’s Portfolio, a prestigious showcase of the best yearbooks in the country.
Selected from more than 2,100 submissions, Arroyo’s yearbook was one of 617 featured in the 30th edition of Varsity’s Portfolio. The publication highlights yearbooks that demonstrate exceptional design, photography, writing, and storytelling. The school’s 2023-24 yearbook focused on capturing the cornerstones of Arroyo culture, including school spirit and academic and athletic success.
“We had a clear purpose with this yearbook, to create a clean, cohesive product that truly showcased the voices, talents, and hard work of our students,” Arroyo yearbook adviser Jennifer Swanson said. “Our staff dedicates countless hours attending games, events, and activities to capture stories that reflect the unique spirit of our school. Receiving this national recognition validates all their effort.”
Varsity Yearbook, a division of Varsity Brands, specializes in providing yearbook services to schools across the country. Through innovative tools, training, and hands-on guidance, Varsity Yearbook helps student teams celebrate their stories and preserve memories.
Arroyo’s yearbook is produced by a team of 24 students enrolled in the yearbook class, who are all hands-on from start to finish. Students cultivate career skills as they plan, gather, design, and edit yearbook content throughout the year. Recent graduate, Angelina Lui, who served as editor-in-chief, played a key role leading production efforts in 2023-24.
Student designers crafted the visual layout, giving the yearbook a cohesive and engaging look. Throughout the year, the yearbook staff documented campus life through photography, interviews, and writing, ensuring that student voices, triumphs, and memories were prominently and accurately featured.
Looking ahead, Arroyo High’s yearbook team plans to grow student participation and increase collaboration, building on this recognition to continue producing high-quality publications.
“Arroyo High School’s recognition in Varsity Yearbook’s Portfolio is a testament to the creativity, dedication, and talent of our students and staff,” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “Their hard work not only preserves important memories but also showcases the vibrant spirit of our school community.”
