WHAT: Nearly 100 students and staff members of Abbott Elementary will showcase artwork throughout the walls of the school’s campus in celebration of its participation in the Turnaround Arts: California program. The Inside Out Project will make a visual statement about the school’s commitment to leveraging the arts for educational equity.
Abbott was accepted into the Turnaround Arts program in summer 2018, providing teacher training, a regional coach to facilitate Abbott’s strategic arts plan and coordinated support for public arts events.
Participants in the Inside Out Project will “activate” exterior campus walls using a photo booth truck and black-and-white portraits.
WHEN: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 31
WHERE: Abbott Elementary School
5260 Clark St.
MORE: Abbott has expanded its arts curriculum to include a 45-minute art lesson per week for all K-6 students and added harmonica classes for third-grade students as part of a partnership with Turnaround Arts: California, which provides up to $10,000 in annual financial support to help ensure arts education for every Abbott student.
Abbott is one of 27 Turnaround Arts partner schools in California, and 80 nationwide.
