Bonita Unified School District will open the 54th annual Smudge Pot rivalry game between Bonita and San Dimas high schools with a special pre-game ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, including a moment of silence and recognition of local first responders and members of the military. The Bonita Bearcats and San Dimas Saints will then renew their longtime rivalry and compete for bragging rights and the coveted silver Smudge Pot, an oil-burning tool once used to protect fruit trees from frost and a tribute to the cities’ roots in Southern California’s citrus industry. Members of the media may access the stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m. Parking information and stadium access details will be provided to attending media representatives in advance. |
