WHAT:                Fontana Unified will welcome back more than 30,000 students for the first day of school, kicking off a landmark year that celebrates 70 years as a unified school district while honoring a legacy of education that began with the opening of its first elementary school in 1888.

Highlights of the 2026-27 school year include:

  • Oak Grove Preparatory Academy opening its doors to its inaugural class of students in grades 6 through 9, adding on an additional grade level each academic year until the Academy serves grades 7 to 12. Oak Grove will feature state-of-the-art learning environments with specialized pathways in technology and visual and performing arts (VAPA).
  • A.B. Miller High School celebrating its 35th anniversary while launching a new Air Force JROTC program and beginning a new chapter for its renowned dance program under new leadership.
  • North Tamarind, O’Day Short, and South Tamarind elementary schools commemorating 75 years of providing academic excellence to Fontana families and students.

DETAILS:             The first day of school marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter as students, families, and educators return to Fontana Unified’s 30 elementary schools, eight middle schools, six comprehensive high schools, one continuation high school, and one adult school for another year of discovery and achievement.

As the District celebrates its 70th anniversary, students will benefit from expanded opportunities in Career Technical Education programs, VAPA, technology, leadership development, and hands-on learning. From the opening of Oak Grove Preparatory Academy to milestone celebrations at longtime neighborhood schools, the 2026-27 school year reflects Fontana Unified’s continued investment in innovative learning environments and experiences that prepare every student to thrive.
