COVINA, CA – The Covina-Valley Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Blackmore as Superintendent at a special Board meeting on March 19.

Blackmore, who has served as Interim Superintendent since July 7, 2025, will continue leading the District with a strong dedication to students, families, and the Covina-Valley Unified community. Blackmore said his commitment to clear and transparent communication, collaboration, and student success will serve as cornerstones of his leadership.

“Covina-Valley Unified is an incredible District, filled with standout students, dedicated families, and a hardworking and passionate team of staff, faculty, and administrators,” Blackmore said. “I am honored to continue serving our District community and look forward to a bright future of opportunity and excellence.”

With more than three decades of experience in education, Blackmore brings strong expertise in leadership, student achievement, and family engagement. Since joining the District, Blackmore has held multiple administrative positions, including Director of Communications, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Director of 21st Century Learning and Special Projects, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

His leadership in advancing curriculum design, educational programs, and supporting the academic development and social-emotional well-being of all students have earned him numerous awards throughout his career, including the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) State Technology Administrator of the Year, C-VUSD Outstanding Administrator, and multiple ACSA regional leadership awards.

Blackmore earned a Doctorate of Education in K-12 leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts in educational leadership and administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature from California State University, Long Beach.

The Board will consider approval of Blackmore’s employment contract at a regular Board of Education meeting on April 2.
