Fontana Unified Brings Regional College and Career Fair to District Campus for First Time
FONTANA — Jurupa Hills High School opened its doors to nearly 3,000 students and families from across the Inland Empire on Oct. 8 as Fontana Unified School District hosted the annual Regional College and Career Fair for the first time on a District campus.
Presented in partnership with Chaffey Joint Union High School District, the fair connected attendees with more than 70 colleges, universities, employers, and career programs from across the country, offering a one-stop shop to explore post-secondary pathways and kept the event local and accessible for students and their families.
“I think this is important because students from around the area can learn more about college and career opportunities and get a head start on planning their futures,” said Stephanie Avalos, a Jurupa Hills High senior and member of the TV Production Career Technical Education (CTE) program. “It’s a great way to find out about different programs and pathways that can help us reach our goals.”
Students explored booths showcasing universities, CTE programs, trade pathways, and additional career opportunities. Booths featured interactive elements such as flight simulators, 3D printers, and trade tools, while other stations offered one-on-one interactions with representatives from local employers, trade programs, and branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
“Hosting the Regional College and Career Fair at Jurupa Hills High School made it easier for our students and families to attend while giving us the opportunity to showcase our facilities and reinvest in our community,” FUSD Assistant Director of College Readiness MarLan Parker said. “Bringing this event home to Fontana reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding access to college and career opportunities for every student.”
Breakout sessions allowed students to explore topics such as college application processes across different university systems, international study options, and pathways in healthcare, law, and the arts. Students also received guidance on dual enrollment, financial aid, internships, and apprenticeships. Each session concluded with a Q&A, where students received personalized advice directly from experts.
“Fontana Unified continues to put students first by creating accessible opportunities for them to explore their futures,” Fontana Unified Superintendent Miki R. Inbody said. “Events like this empower our students to dream big and equip them with the tools and guidance they need to succeed beyond high school.”
