COVINA, CA – The Covina-Valley Unified School District Board of Education has appointed longtime educator and District leader Dr. Jonathan Blackmore as interim superintendent for the 2025-26 school year, following a Board meeting held on July 10. Blackmore will lead the District while the Board conducts a comprehensive search for a permanent superintendent, which is expected to begin later this year.
With more than 31 years of experience in education and over a decade of service to C-VUSD, Blackmore brings expertise and a strong commitment to student achievement, family engagement, and organizational excellence.
Since joining the District, Blackmore has served in various roles, including Director of Communications, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Director of 21st Century Learning and Special Projects, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Prior to his tenure in Covina-Valley Unified, he served as a high school principal, assistant principal, counselor, and English teacher.
“Covina-Valley Unified has a long-standing tradition of excellence, and I am honored to continue that legacy as interim superintendent,” Blackmore said. “Our focus remains to ensure every student is supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential. I look forward to working closely with our Board, students, staff, families, and community during this transition period.”
Throughout his career, Blackmore has been widely recognized for his work in advancing academic programs, strengthening school-community relationships, and supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of all students.
His leadership has earned him numerous honors, including the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) State Technology Administrator of the Year, C-VUSD Outstanding Administrator, and multiple ACSA Region Leadership Awards.
Blackmore holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and creative writing from California State University (CSU), Long Beach; a Master of Arts in educational administration from CSU Dominguez Hills; and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from the University of Southern California.
The Board of Education will begin its superintendent search process in the coming months. As part of its comprehensive search, the Board plans to seek input from staff, families, and all members of the Covina-Valley community as it identifies the next leader for the District. The permanent superintendent is expected to begin on July 1, 2026, in time for the 2026-27 school year.
