Covina-Valley Unified Excels in Statewide Reading Rankings, Securing Top Spots in California, LA County
COVINA, CA – The California Reading Coalition (CRC) has ranked Covina-Valley Unified School District sixth in California and fourth in Los Angeles County in its California Reading Report Card, underscoring the District’s commitment to fostering early literacy for long-term academic success.
The CRC’s Reading Report Card identifies and highlights California school districts that successfully teach reading to third graders, particularly to economically disadvantaged Hispanic/Latino students. Districts are ranked by the percent of these students who meet or exceed grade level for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) third-grade English Language Arts test.
“This recognition is a testament to our District’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence and our ability to inspire every student’s unlimited potential,” Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer said. “We are extremely proud of our students and are happy to see our efforts positively impacting the lives of our young learners.”
Earlier this year, seven Covina-Valley Unified elementary schools were also named to the Educational Results Partnership’s 2023 Honor Roll list based on their CAASPP student outcome data from 2019 through 2023, again showcasing the District’s focus on strong early childhood development.
Covina-Valley Unified schools offer personalized one-on-one classroom attention to help students achieve their reading goals, placing a strong emphasis on reading comprehension. Schools also offer reading events throughout the year including reading picnics, family reading nights, and more to ensure all students are encouraged to read and succeed.
