41 Fontana Unified Students Recognized for Academic Success by National College Board Programs
FONTANA, CA – Forty-one students spread across all five Fontana Unified comprehensive high schools earned awards from the College Board National Recognition Program for their demonstrated academic achievement and strong performance on college-preparatory exams, including 32 students set to become first-generation college students.
Fontana Unified students were honored by four of the College Board’s five programs, including the National First-Generation Recognition Program Award (NFGRPA), which debuted this year. National College Board recognition helps distinguish students during the application process for college scholarships or admissions.
“Fontana Unified is incredibly proud of this group of students for staying the course and committing to academic excellence,” Superintendent Miki R. Inbody said. “They not only serve as leaders for their respective campuses but for the community as a whole, and these awards not only highlight their talent but open doors to new scholarship and higher education opportunities.”
Students qualify for the prestigious awards by placing in the top 10 percent of students taking College Board assessments, including the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test or Advanced Placement (AP) exams, while also maintaining a minimum 3.3 GPA and identifying in one of several underrepresented groups.
In addition to the NFGRPA, Fontana Unified students secured recognition from the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Award (NHRA), the National Indigenous Award (NIA), and the National African American Recognition Award (NAARA).
Thirty-two Fontana Unified students received the NHRA and the NFGRPA, four secured the NAARA, and one earned the NIA. Twenty-seven FUSD students earned multiple awards.
Fontana Unified students have access to a range of college and career readiness programs, including a K-12 International Baccalaureate Continuum, a comprehensive Dual Language Immersion program, 34 career technical education pathways, a variety of Advanced Placement courses, award-winning Advanced Via Individual Determination programs, and more.
Throughout the year, FUSD provides students with resources and experiences to help increase access to higher education possibilities with financial workshops, schoolwide college application days, and an annual regional college and career fair.
