Lynwood Unified School District
Lynwood Unified to Launch Reconstruction of Lynwood High School with Demolition Ceremony
WHAT: Lynwood Unified School District will celebrate a momentous step forward in reviving the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus – which closed in June 2020 after a classroom building collapsed due to major structural failures – with a demolition ceremony on Nov. 6, paving the way for the construction of a 175,000-square-foot state-of-the-art educational facility.
This event marks a significant moment for the Lynwood High School community as officials prepare to transform the site into a new chapter of opportunity and growth for generations to come. Representatives of the Lynwood Unified Board of Education, Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite and state elected officials will commence the demolition with a symbolic first swing.
WHEN: 9 a.m., Monday, Nov. 6, 2023
WHERE: Lynwood High School Imperial Campus, 4050 Imperial Hwy, Lynwood, CA 90262
DETAILS: On June 16, 2020, a portion of ceiling soffits at the three-story classroom building at the LHS Imperial Campus collapsed due to major structural failures. Thanks to $250 million in funding from the State Legislature allocated in July 2022, Lynwood High School Knights will return to the District’s flagship high school in fall 2027. The new classroom building will feature a culinary arts kitchen and medical and art facilities with specialized equipment and technology. The school’s baseball and softball fields will also be redesigned and rebuilt to enhance athletic and physical activities.
While removal of the building’s interior structure has begun, the exterior demolition of the building is scheduled to commence following the ceremony. Demolition is estimated to be complete in February 2024 with construction beginning in Summer 2024. Project updates are available at bit.ly/LHSUpdates.
