Buena Park School District Summer Programs Provide Engaging and Enriching Instruction
BUENA PARK, CA – Buena Park Unified School District students are kicking off their summer vacation with fun activities, field trips, academic intervention opportunities and more through the District’s SOARS Summer Camp, allowing them to express their creativity and expand their knowledge.
Through the four-week program, offered in partnership with California State University, Fullerton, students engage with cultures from around the world by participating in activities that include crafts and taste-testing reflective of the culture.
“Our summer program activities give our students an opportunity to collaborate with one another and experience hands-on learning,” Director of Educational Programs Seri Hwang said. “They are able to engage in various enrichment and learning opportunities and enjoy doing it!”
Every Friday, elementary students take their instruction outside of the classroom and attend educational field trips to destinations such as the California Science Center, the Discovery Cube, and Medieval Times. Middle school students in the program begin college-readiness research by taking college tours to local schools including the University of California, Irvine and California State University, Fullerton.
In addition to the SOARS Summer Camp and Extended School Year, Buena Park also offers Kid Connection, a fee-based summer program offered for families who are in need of summer care. Kid Connection runs all summer and provides students with similar enrichment opportunities, including engaging crafts and projects and weekly field trips.
Buena Park School District students are also taking part in a Speech Camp, held during the final two weeks in June to help students build skills and confidence in public speaking. The camp culminates with a speech tournament, where students will put their speaking abilities on full display and showcase what they learned during the camp.
“The many summer programs we offer our students help build on and refine skills taught during the school year and provide a fun space for our students to enjoy summer activities,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Yvette Cantu said. “The programs are also a great opportunity for students from different schools to meet each other, have fun together and connect our District.”
