WHAT: Motivational speaker and children’s author June Durr will address Fontana High School Bio Animatronic and Neuro Prosthetics students about receiving a prosthetic arm custom-made by Garner Holt Productions studio artists.

In 2015, Garner Holt created a new prosthetic arm for Durr; dubbed ‘Lefty,’ the arm is made entirely out of proprietary silicone, is layered and textured to look realistic, has a rotating wrist, flesh tones and freckles, and can lock in 11 different positions. After her talk, Durr will conduct a Q&A with FOHI students.

WHEN: Friday, March 11
10:45 to 11:45 a.m.
11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

WHERE: Bio Animakerspace Lab at Fontana High School
9453 Citrus Ave., Fontana

DETAILS: Fontana High School’s Bio Animatronic and Neuro Prosthetics classes are part of the school’s Health Science and Medical Technology career technical education pathway.

Combining robotics, anatomy and mechatronics, the classes are presented in partnership with Garner Holt Education and include access to a state-of-the-art Makerspace lab. FOHI students incorporate engineering machines, laser cutters and 3D printers to design their own life-like models, including artificial hands, arms and legs.

Durr, who lost her left arm after cancer surgery in 2002 and for years wore a wooden arm, highlights her story in the illustrated children’s book, “Grandma’s Amazing Arm: The Adventures of Malia Mouse,” published in 2015.
