El Monte Union to Hold Public Hearing, Board to Narrow Draft Maps
EL MONTE – El Monte Union High School District will hold its sixth public hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 5, as it nears the end of the mapping process in its transition to by-trustee area elections. A total of seven draft maps – indicating what trustee areas could look like – have been shared with the public. The Board of Trustees will begin to narrow the number of maps under consideration during the public hearing.
The Board will discuss draft maps developed by professional demographers, National Demographics Corporation (NDC), NDC Orange, NDC Green, NDC Green 2, NDC Yellow, and NDC Yellow 2 during the public hearing at the Board meeting beginning at 6 p.m. on Jan. 5. The public is invited to participate in-person or virtually and provide input on the proposed maps.
Comments can also be submitted online through the District’s dedicated webpage: EMUHSD District Formation Process. All maps are posted at EMUHSD high schools and the District office, and will be displayed in the Board room prior to each public hearing.
The Board will select a final map at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, during the last public hearing scheduled during the regular Board meeting. The approved map will then be presented to the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization for final approval.
Following the LA County Committee’s approval of the new map, the first by-trustee area elections for the El Monte Union High School District will be held in November 2022.
